This is not an AI text. These are a few very short and specific thoughts from real experience about lawn topdressing.
Lawn topdressing is becoming a fashion craze. The internet is full of "before and after" pictures where a topdressed lawn is shown a week later as a solid, dark green, without any defect patch :) This encourages us, without much thought, to pour sand on our lawn and expect the same result.
Unfortunately, reality is somewhat different. And at this point, we distinguish two cases - "sand on the lawn", or "gravel on the grass"... In the first case, people know what they are doing, have a well-maintained lawn, and seek even greater perfection and lawn quality. In the second case, unfortunately, they expect a lot, and it turns out as always. We sincerely wish you never find yourself in this second situation. Use topdressing only when both you and your lawn are ready. Properly done lawn topdressing and leveling ( обязательно with "core" aeration beforehand) provides many benefits - it improves soil structure, improves its drainage, and lightens it. It allows lawn roots to develop better, and the lawn grows better. It smooths out small unevenness in the lawn. It allows resowing certain small areas or even the entire lawn.
In a standard situation, with properly performed "core" aeration, we recommend using about 1.5 tons of sand per acre of lawn. There should always be enough sand. If you run out, you will not be able to perform quality leveling. If the lawn has already been leveled before, a smaller amount of sand can be chosen. If the lawn is very uneven, you can slightly increase the amount.
So is it sand or gravel? We always level the lawn with sand. We recommend using 0-2 fraction sand. Larger fraction sand, gravel, or their mixtures are not suitable for lawns. Sometimes it happens that after clients order sand for their lawn, we find a pile of gravel intended for construction in the yard... Why? Because the driver found another quarry closer. Because there was sand left over in the car from concrete pouring. Because it's the same to the cashier at the quarry what's loaded into the car, and the driver was talking on the phone and didn't even see what they loaded for him....What then? Alas, the second option - "gravel on the grass" :(
